I'M A SECRET MAGPIE...
Hi there, my name is Jo. Welcome to my creative journey!
Let me start by introducing myself; I'm a secret magpie I like all that shines, I have a lion head rabbit named Teddy/Mrs Flufferson, I'm a coffee addict and I love to be around nature.
Since I was a 'littlun', I've always had a passion for illustration, handmade objects and to be honest anything crafty. You can often find me sat in a pile of fabric or scraps of paper with washi tape or bits of thread strewn across the floor.
As a kid I would watch my mum sewing and she would sit with me and draw, and teach me how to make bits and pieces from envelopes to flowers cut out of vegetables. I realise now that my mum was teaching me about self sufficiency and that you really can create something out of nothing.
There is a real sense of achievement when you have made something from scratch, and seeing the look on someone's face with their handmade gift is like nothing else.
I'm half Thai and half English, but I was born in a Dutch compound in Saudi Arabia, so I've always been surrounded by different cultures and their visual aspects. Intricate pattern styles and motifs from other countries are something I have always found fascinating, through the use of colour and the way they can make you feel. I've often used them in my doodles and designs, so naturally I wanted to follow this in my career.
I graduated from Falmouth University with a degree in Fashion Design. I wanted to see my illustrations moving. Towards the end of my degree I realised I perhaps should have studied a different course, so I fell a little out of love with it. I have taken a little time out from the doodling and crafting, but now I'm back and ready to pursue my creative path!
Have a sit down with a cuppa, and enjoy what follows through my blog, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
